You're So Post-Post-Rock Right Now

Daniel J. Kushner, traipsing through sounds

To Resurrect A Blog

with one comment

This is really more of a pre-blog post than the real thing. A “soft open,” for those of you who manage art galleries, work at newly launched restaurants, or just tentatively begin something not knowing how it will all turn out.

This blog has been “live” for a while now, but rarely was it updated regularly and with new and relevant information about current music. That’s all about to change. Check back here for record reviews, commentary on music news, and any other seemingly random opinions related to contemporary arts & culture.

If you’re at all interested in the propagation and discussion of independent music and artistic expression, then I think we’re humming the same indelible tune. The act of writing songs or symphonies is obviously creative. But at least potentially, so is what we, the listeners–the audience members, the critics, or the unassuming passersby–do with that initial burst of creativity. What will we be inspired to think? What will be inspired to do?

I am constantly rejuvenated by what music articulates about what I see around me and by what how it elucidates and brings validity to what I feel. And it just makes sense: whether the sounds in question straddle the line between indie and classical, or if the music’s simply well-crafted, genuine and happens to be neo-folk with post-hardcore affectations (and if it is exactly that, who really cares?).

It’s all worth exploring, because music speaks to things that were already there which we just couldn’t see. Whether you’re an old friend of mine, an acquaintance on Twitter, or someone who’s read my past writings, I invite you to check this out. Talk to you all soon.
